Thieves targeting trucks and backcountry recreation vehicles have once again struck in the middle of the night. This time they stole a truck, dirtbike and an ATV from a driveway in Johnson Heights sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Revelstoke RCMP received a report on Monday morning that a 2004 Ford F-350 loaded with the other two recreational vehicles went missing from a resident’s driveway.
The truck was outfitted with a club-style steering wheel lock, but the thieves circumvented it by sawing through the steering wheel then removing the lock.
The ATV is a 2007–09 grey 700cc Yamaha Grizzly. The bike was a white and orange 2000 Honda XR250.
Vehicle thefts have increased in Revelstoke this year compared to last. Since Jan. 1, 2011, there have been 30 reported thefts of vehicles, a category that includes cars, trucks, snowmobiles, ATVs and dirtbikes. In comparison, there were 23 reported thefts of vehicles by this time last year. There were a total of 35 reported thefts of vehicles for all of 2010.
