The police were in the right place at the right time on Thursday (Feb. 4) morning.

Mission RCMP officers observed staff at the local Save-On-Foods struggling with a lone male. The man  was putting up a fight and trying to flee, after attempting to steal a significant quantity of meat products.

“Meat theft is common place for shoplifters as it is often resold on the street for a quick and easy profit,” said Mission RCMP S/Sgt. Rob Dixon. “This can be extremely frustrating and costly for local businesses. It was rewarding to see this individual and his reaction to being caught red-handed.”

The male was linked to a waiting vehicle in the parking lot, where a second male was taken into custody and more meat products stolen from the nearby local Safeway were seized.

Both men are residents of Mission. One of them was taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant and the second was released at the scene.

Mission RCMP in consultation with both businesses, continue their investigation into this matter.
