Saturday’s sunshine, which was sandwiched between early morning and late afternoon thundershowers, seemed to be reserved for the 24th annual Downtown Kelowna Block Party.
This year’s Block Party—formerly known as Mardi Gras and, in 2011, Fusion Festival—featured 142 vendors and activities stretched along Bernard Avenue from Abbott Street to Richter Street.
The 2012 Block Party brought out nearly 12,000 people and Downtown Kelowna Association communications manager Ryan Watters said this year’s event likely gathered similar numbers.
The downtown festival also gave visitors a chance to check out some of the revitalization work that’s been done since last fall.
“This is the first time Bernard has been shut down since the revitalization finished, so people who hadn’t seen it yet got a chance to actually walk the streets,” said Watters.
Watters noted planning is already underway for the 25th annual Block Party celebration, which will take place next summer.
