Three all-candidates meetings scheduled for Cowichan

Now, it’s time for the big all-candidates debates so voters can hear Rhonda Chen (PPC), Alana DeLong (Conservative), Blair Herbert (Liberal), Lydia Hwitsum (Green), and Alistair MacGregor (NDP) on a variety of subjects.

First up is an all-candidates meeting focusing on seniors issues has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Quamichan School, at 2515 Beverly St. in Duncan. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the meeting scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Duncan branches of the BC Retired Teachers and the Federal Retirees Associations.

Cowichan-Malahat-Langford joins other South Island ridings in the “100 Debates on the Environment” program on Thursday, Oct. 3.

That day, Island voters will flood to community venues to hear candidates’ best ideas and proposals for the environment and climate change.

These debates will be four of more than 100 debates held in communities nationwide. The aim is to demonstrate to politicians that the environment and the climate crisis needs to be front and centre this election, reinforcing polls that indicate the environment and climate change are a top issue for voters this election.

The Cowichan-Malahat-Langford version of the 100 Debates takes at the Duncan United Church place and runs from 7-9 p.m. Doors open at 6:30.

The Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce is holding its all-candidates meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 16, less than a week before the election in the upper Centennial Hall (beside the arena).

The moderated debate will take place between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. so get there early if you want a seat near the front.
