A stretch of road between Harewood and the Old City Quarter will be closed until the fall for construction work.
According to a City of Nanaimo press release, Bruce Avenue will be closed between Pine Street and Fourth Street for utility work and road construction starting Tuesday, July 16.
The work will include water main and sanitary and storm sewer upgrades, new curbs and sidewalks on the west side of Bruce Avenue and new on-street bike lanes.
“We are excited to start construction on this project which includes transportation improvements for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and passenger vehicles,” said Kurtis Noble, capital project management specialist with the city, in the release.
A detour will be set up along Pine Street and Fourth Street. Construction is expected to last until the fall.
According to RDN Transit’s website, routes No. 25 and 40 will be affected by the road work until the end of October. Route No. 25 will detour onto Pine Street while Route No. 40 will detour along Pine, Park Avenue and Fifth Street.
