Three seniors were transported to area hospitals, including one woman who was airlifted to Kamloops, after a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway at Kault Hill on Thursday, Sept. 10.
RCMP Cpl. Mike Wasylenki of the Trans-Canada East Traffic Service says a preliminary investigation indicates that a car was parked on the shoulder of the highway facing west when the driver unsuccessfully initiated a U-turn back onto the highway into the path of a westbound truck. The incident took place at approximately 4:30 p.m.
The 64-year old female driver of the car, who is from Sicamous, was flown from the scene to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops in critical condition.
The passenger in the car, the 80-year-old spouse of the driver, was taken to Shuswap Lake General Hospital with serious injuries.
The 64-year-old male driver of the truck, who is from Blind Bay, was also taken to hospital in Salmon Arm with what appears to be relatively minor injuries.
Traffic was disrupted on the highway for more than four hours.
Wasylenki says investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing.
