Three men were rescued from the Sooke Basin on Saturday after their boat capsized into the water.
The Sooke Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (station 37) received the call late afternoon that a 12-foot boat with three people aboard overturned between Billings Spit and Goodridge Island, with two people in the water.
When RCM-SAR crews arrived around nine minutes after the call, the boat sank, and all three men were treading water, said search and rescue operations manager Jason van der Valk.
Van der Valk noted the men were able to stay with the boat for a short period of time before it sank, but was troubled to see none of them had life jackets on.
The individuals, all in their mid-20s, were plucked out of the water and taken by rescue crews to Sunny Shores, where B.C. Ambulance, RCMP and Sooke Fire Rescue tended to their care before being taken to the hospital.
