Thrift store burns in Yarrow

Half a thrift store on Yarrow's main street was "significantly" damaged by a fire early Thursday morning, fire officials say.

Half a thrift store on Yarrow’s main street was “significantly” damaged by a fire of unknown origin early Thursday morning, fire officials say.

Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Ullyot said the rear of the building was “fully involved” with flames reaching into the attic when firefighters arrived at about 3:45 a.m.

“The fire caused significant damage to half the building,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Yarrow has seen a number of fires in the past few months, including spectacular blazes at a lumber yard in January and at a gasoline station in March.

But Ullyot said there is “no pattern” to the fires to raise suspicions.

Fighting the Thursday morning fire was hampered by difficulty in gaining access to the attic, but firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to a nearby pizza outlet and a health foods store.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
