City of Langley residents are invited to stop in for coffee at City Hall this Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. for the official unveiling of the new Timms Community Centre design.

“I encourage residents to come and have a look at the many new innovative, convenient and exciting offerings that will be part of this important new community facility,” said City of Langley acting mayor Ted Schaffer.

“It is a truly integrated facility that combines three primary users — Langley City Hall, City of Langley Fraser Valley Regional Library and Timms Community Centre — into a single active and inviting civic centre.”

In addition to an opportunity to view the concept renderings and learn about the building’s many unique design features, visitors will have a chance to interact with the design and construction team, following a short presentation by Schaffer, Kim Hilton, director of Recreation, Culture and Community Services, and architect Stuart Rothnie.

“This facility will serve as a community and cultural hub where residents can come together to access group activities, health and fitness opportunities, public information and community resources,” added Schaffer.

“By supporting positive health outcomes through active living, we envision this facility as the civic heart of our community — a ‘go-to’ place to meet, engage, connect, learn, celebrate and be active together.”

The new two-storey Timms Centre will tie into the existing City Hall and library building, enabling users and staff to capitalize on the benefits of an interconnected facility. Such benefits will include enhanced service coordination and integration, efficiencies through shared resources and improved accessibility for the public through a ‘one-stop-shop’ service delivery.

The completion date for the project is slated for Dec. 15. The official ground-breaking date for the $14.3 million project will be announced by mid-July.
