A Keremeos massage therapist is already in South Korea working to keep Canadian athletes competing in top form.
This is the third Olympics (Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, now PyeongChang 2018) for Marnie Todd who works with Freestyle Canada as a registered massage therapist.
“The Olympics are a great experience to be a part of. It is the culmination of an athletes, coaches and support teams life’s work. It’s pretty amazing to be a part of the journey,” she told the Review prior to her departure to PyeongChang, South Korea last Friday.
Although the Olympic Games are set to open Feb. 9 (Friday) and will run until Feb. 25, Todd has been working with athletes a pre-Olympic training camp for half pipe.
In addition to half pipe, Todd is working with athletes throughout the games competing in aerials and slope style events.
In previous games she has also worked with athletes competing in moguls – a sport both of her children compete in at a high level.
Although she doesn’t expect to get much sightseeing in, Todd knows her way around South Korea, at least a little bit, as she attended the Olympic test event last year with the half pipe team.
“The team keeps us pretty busy but we usually get to watch at least one other event and as we stay in the athletes village there is always members of other teams from all over the world to meet and chat with. It is a very unique and amazing environment to be in and experience,” she said.
“We do not have time for sightseeing, pretty jam packed schedule.”
Todd will return home after her Olympic adventure on Feb. 27.
“The spirit of the Olympic Games is indescribable, the who world is represented and watching. It really makes you feel a patriotism that no other event does. We are all proud Canadians there,” she said.
