Too many meds suspected behind truck crash in Saanich

Gorge and Tillicum roads shut down after propane-powered vehicle crashes, starts leaking fuel

A single-vehicle crash at the corner of Gorge and Tillicum roads Tuesday morning shut down the streets after the propane-powered vehicle started leaking fuel.

The 1987 GMC pickup truck left the road around 9:15 a.m. and crashed into a bus shelter, and began leaking propane.

The driver, a 53-year-old Saanich man, was issued a 24-hour driving suspension after admitting to attending officers he had taken “a number of  prescription medications,” Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie said. He may also be issued a ticket for driving without consideration.

The road was closed for several hours until fire crews were able to stop the leak and clean up the fuel.
