Submitted article–The 2012 Totem to Totem Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10 km run took place Saturday, July 21 in conjunction with Skidegate Days. The number of participants was up and the number of islanders running one of the events for the first time was up too. What made this year’s event more memorable was the number of off island runners participating. This year Totem to Totem went national and international. We had runners from BC and Alberta and Ontario. And for the first time, we had international runners from Alaska, North Carolina, Florida, Vietnam, and the Netherlands.Robert Schmidt from the Netherlands ran his 155th marathon with Ben Davidson, who was running his first. There were not just runners participating. Marianne Schneider from Aberfoyle Ontario walked the half marathon and Rose Russ, of Skidegate, walked the 10 km. Jenn Dysart from Queen Charlotte was a repeat winner for the women’s 10 km. event. She knocked three minutes off her time from last year. It was great to see those runners who came out and participated and we look forward to seeing them again next year.Howa to all the volunteers who came out. Congratulations to everyone.
