Tourism Langley searches for new home

Tourism Langley is moving out of the Langley Events Centre because of high rental costs.

Tourism Langley is moving out of the Langley Events Centre.

With rent running at around $80,000 a year, the LEC has become too expensive, John Aldag advised Township council on Monday.

“We’re looking for a more affordable home,” said Aldag, who chairs Tourism Langley’s board of directors.

He said later that a visitors’ centre committee was asked to review Tourism Langley’s tenure at the LEC.

‘”It found that our rent costs were out of line with our budget,” Aldag said.

The committee is now looking for a new location.

Aldag, who led the committee that recommended the LEC for the tourist agency, said that an office close to Highway 1 has been all but ruled out.

He noted that when Langley had a tourist information centre close to the freeway, staff found that the majority of people who stopped by simply wanted directions to a location or event in Vancouver, got back into their cars and returned to the freeway.
