On April 16, Tourism Wells Gray held its annual general meeting at the Clearwater Ski Hill. The evening was well attended by operators from all sectors, including a large percentage of businesses from within Wells Gray Park.
Chuck Emery gave an enjoyable presentation of aerial photography showcasing the volcanic elements that make up the geological features of Wells Gray Park.
The new Tourism Wells Gray website was launched www.wellsgray.ca and many operators have already become partners in TWG’s new advertising campaign and industry listings.
Board elections were held and many members chose to remain on the board, with a few new representatives taking on executive positions.
The 2014 board of directors is as follows: Gy Ovenden, chair – Guiding and activities sector; AJ Bachhal, vice-chair – AHRT Hotels; Marion Ott, treasurer – Accommodation and Food Sector; Doris Laner, secretary – Park permit holders; Dan Saul – Simpcw First Nation; Hazel Wadlegger – Wells Gray Country services committee; Tod Haughton – BC Parks; Ken Kjenstad – District of Clearwater; Cheryl Thomas – Clearwater Chamber of Commerce; and Tania Govaert – Tourism at large representative.
One AHRT hotel position is vacant at this time.
The year 2014 will be a busy time for Tourism Wells Gray. The organization plans to concentrate its marketing efforts on short haul Canadian and Pacific Northwest business, with a special emphasis on British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Washington State.
