Some tourists visiting Vancouver Island from Europe had their vacation cut short when they were involved in a collision at Sutton Pass on Highway 4, Saturday afternoon.

The accident was what Port Alberni RCMP Watch Commander Cpl. Pat Jenkins termed “an off-set head-on collision.” A westbound vehicle cross the centre line and hit an eastbound vehicle.

“Both vehicles were destroyed,” Jenkins said. “All the occupants were taken to hospital as a precaution but there weren’t any serious injuries.”

One vehicle contained tourists from Europe driving a rental vehicle out of Alberta.

The driver that crossed the centre line was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act, Jenkins said.
