Town council salaries are under review, as part of the 2017 budget process.
“This is up for discussion,” said Mayor Frank Armitage following a meeting Monday afternoon. “The director has pointed out that this has not been reviewed, the amount of remuneration, since 1997, so we will be doing that.”
Princeton councillors receive an annual stipend of $10,793 plus expenses. The mayor earns $21,586 a year, as well as remuneration from the regional district of $14,966.
A draft budget worksheet for the town’s general operating fund indicates a 17 per cent increase in total council indemnity for the coming year – an increase to $79,392 over $67,477 – however director of finance Shirley McMahon stressed it’s a very preliminary document.
“You are looking at a very first draft,” she said. “This is a draft budget and council hasn’t approved it.”
