Every spring, Councillor Jack Wilson has called for a relaxation of sprinkling restrictions in the Town of Qualicum Beach. This year, he got it.
In a report to council Monday night, director of engineering Bob Weir said the completion of the Berwick reservoir has given the town enough flexibility in its water storage capacity to make a relaxation possible.
“It has been expressed for some time on behalf of the community to perhaps extend sprinkler regulations beyond 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.,” Weir said. “Last year we were limited with storage, but with the new storage at Berwick we have an opportunity to experiment with some extended hours, so I’m recommending council adopt revised watering times of 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.”
Weir stressed however that residents should still try to spread out their water demand as much as possible to off-peak times and to always practice conservation.
Wilson was only too happy to move the motion to adopt the new hours and it passed unanimously.
“I appreciate Mr. Weir’s work on this and, personally, I will miss the late spring repartee we have annually over the efficacy of sprinkling restrictions,” Wilson said.
