Changing to lower energy lighting appears likely to save some big bucks for Qualicum Beach taxpayers.
In a report to council, public works superintendent Al Cameron stated the conversion of the Community Hall’s 18 75-watt flood lamps with 15-watt LED units are expected to save $1,100 per year. The cost for the conversion was largely covered by a $1,874 Power Smart rebate grant from BC Hydro, leaving the municipality with an $896 installation cost.
The savings at the Civic Centre are even higher.
The change, which is expected to save the municipality $4,084 per year, was also partly funded by a BC Hydro rebate of $2,715, leaving the town to pay only $1,315 for the installation. — Neil Horner
