Townhouse fire cause unknown

The investigation has ended into the May 24 fire at Hawk’s Landing on Mt. Revelstoke Place

The cause of a Vernon townhouse fire will never be known.

The investigation has ended into the May 24 fire at Hawk’s Landing on Mt. Revelstoke Place which caused widespread damage in two townhomes.

“We have a strong theory but it’s not something we can prove,” said Lawrie Skolrood, a Vernon deputy fire chief. “The cause will go down as undetermined. We have gone as far as we can.”

Skolrood won’t comment on what the potential causes may have been.

“We’re missing the important ingredient of the ignition source,” he said.

“The private (insurance) investigator is in the same boat and they can’t prove anything either.”

The one item that had been ruled out was a barbecue.

Beyond the two units that sustained widespread damage the siding on another unit was melted and there’s smoke damage in a fourth unit.

The damage could be valued at about $750,000.
