Fire in an old barn that was slated for demolition caused the black smoke over North Langley Sunday afternoon.
“It was an old dilipidated barn,” explained Township deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson.
The fire department got the call about 2:45 p.m. and went to the property at 216th Street and 82nd Avenue.
“We’re suspsecting that it started from a grass fire,” he said.
The fire department had about 16 crew from three halls fight the fire to prevent it from spreading to the house in the property which had been sold to the provincial government for use as a construction yard for the upcoming overpass project in that area. Also on scene were BC Ambulance crews, a standard practice during structure fires to help in case of any firefighter injuries and check on them during the course of fighting the fire (oxygen levels, exposures, etc.)
“No body injured, no animals, no contents in the barn,” Ferguson summed up.
