Trades trailer returns to CSS

The trailer, which is operated jointly by TRU and School District 73, will be used to present a Welding Level C course

Thompson Rivers University’s trades trailer is due to arrive at Clearwater Secondary School today (Jan. 16), according to school principal Alan Stel.

“That’s pretty big news for us,” he said. “We have 10 CSS students signed up plus two external students – so it’s a full complement.”

The trailer, which is operated jointly by TRU and School District 73, will be used to present a Welding Level C course.

The introductory level course is a good first step towards taking an apprenticeship in welding, said Stel. Completing the course means a student could be significantly on his or her way towards getting a trades ticket before leaving high school.

Course work is expected to begin in dearly February and will continue until July.

Stel credited Community Resource Center manager Sylvia Arduini and CSS teacher Brent Buck for the organizational work they did plus making sure the students met the fairly stringent entry criteria.

The interest shown has been so strong that the trades trailer could return as soon as January or September, 2013.
