Too much alcohol appears to be the cause behind a number of calls to the Trail RCMP over the weekend.
Police are reporting cases that include a drunken fracas in the Gulch, a misplaced person on Rossland Avenue, and a woman allegedly driving while impaired near Walmart on Sunday afternoon.
The first incident was the report of a fight, which happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday night just outside of the Rex Hotel.
Upon the RCMP’s arrival, two intoxicated males, one aged 24 and the other aged 27, were found wrestling each other on the ground.
Additionally, an intoxicated 29-year-old female suspect grabbed the wallet of one of the males that had dropped onto the ground during the melee, and attempted to run away with it in front of police officers.
“The female; however, was too drunk to physically flee the scene and was stopped by police before she had made any progress,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich reported Monday.
“The two males and female were arrested by police and held in custody at the Trail detachment until sober. “
The three people all knew each other previous to the scuffle, and no criminal charges are being considered at this time.
While this incident was still being addressed, another booze-related call came into the police shortly after 4 a.m.
“The Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated 39-year-old male of Warfield, holding a garden hose with an unlit cigarette in his mouth, standing in the yard of a residence on Rossland Avenue,” Wicentowich said.
“After wandering around the backyard, at one point in the incident, the male attempted to enter the residence.”
Upon attendance, the RCMP discovered the man was heavily intoxicated and mistakenly believed he was at his own home.
“The male was arrested for public intoxication and held in custody at the Trail detachment until sober,” Wicentowich added. “The male was released when sober and reported to the RCMP that he did not recall the events of the previous night.”
Then on Sunday, at 4:30 p.m., the Trail RCMP carried out an investigation on a female driver, aged 67, who failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Old Waneta Highway and Highway 3B.
The woman was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while operating a motor vehicle, and failed a roadside screening device breath test administered by the attending officer.
She was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition under … the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
