Trailer fire extinguished in Nanaimo

Fire damage limited thanks to neighbour who spotted smoke and called 911

Nanaimo firefighters snuffed out a small fire in a travel trailer Friday.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to a home on the 2600 block of Starlight Trail in Nanaimo’s Diver Lake neighbourhood at about 11 a.m. after a neighbour who was shovelling snow from his driveway noticed smoke coming from the trailer.

Firefighters at the scene said the fire appeared to have started in the trailer’s refrigerator, which can operate on either electricity or propane. The trailer was plugged into the home’s electrical supply.

Fire damage was confined to the area of the trailer’s refrigerator, no one was injured and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
