Train derailment knocks out power in Field

Power is not expected to be restored until tomorrow

  • Jan. 26, 2021 12:00 a.m.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. MT on Jan. 26, a CP grain train derailed approximately 5 km west of Field.

According to CP, there were no injuries to the crew. CP immediately dispatched crews and equipment to the site.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Due to this, power was knocked out in the region, forcing the Town of Field to run on emergency power from their ESF battery, with BC Hydro encouraging residents to reduce load to conserve battery supply.

Crews were on site to try to restore power. Power has since returned to the community after a full day outage.
