The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions East of Sicamous for avalanche control and will be  shut down for several hours.

Drive BC has estimated the time of reopening as between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

As well, the ministry’s web site has posted a severe travel warning for Highway 1, citing treacherous conditions including freezing rain on compact snow from Sicamous to Craigellachie.

“Travellers are advised that with warming temperatures rain is falling on compact snow,” the notice posted early this morning said.

The notice advised that while plowing, sanding and salting operations are continuing, “drivers are encouraged to drive with caution and allow additional travel time to reach your destination.”
