Trapped crash victim freed by emergency crew

Two people escaped serious injury Wednesday after their pickup truck pulling a camper trailer jack-knifed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Annis Road east of Chilliwack.

A Victoria couple escaped with minor injuries when their camper trailer clipped a semi-trailer in the westbound lanes near Annis Road east of Chilliwack just after noon Wednesday.

The couple’s pickup truck and the camper trailer “conveniently” slid off the Trans-Canada onto the Annis Road exit ramp, avoiding more serious injury, said RCMP Sgt. Bob Reed, at Fraser Valley Traffic Services.

He said the semi-trailer driver was uninjured, and the couple’s two dogs were also safe and being looked after at an animal shelter.

Reed said the pickup pulling the camper trailer was passing the semi- when it started to “sway” so the driver slowed down.

But the trailer continued to sway and “tagged” the semi- in the slow lane, flipped onto its side and slid onto the Annis Road exit ramp.

One of the pickup truck occupants was trapped inside the wreckage, but was freed with minor injuries.
