An aged and beloved tree was put out of its misery by Scott’s Tree Care Ltd, tree cutting service, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Observer and the unassuming town of Agassiz was serenaded with the buzz of chainsaws as Scott’s crew demolished a Pioneer Park legend.
The massive tree that counted eighty rings on its stump (making it eighty years old) was badly damaged after this year’s big storm. The tree posed not only a threat to the other trees around it, but also to oncoming traffic on Pioneer Avenue, with it leaning too far in the direction of travellers and pedestrians on the street according to Scott’s Tree Care Owner and Chainsaw Wielder Scott Borle.
“We assessed it after the ice storm and there was a lot of broken branches and there was some big cracks in it, so just with it being over the roadways and the park bench and being in the park and for safety of the public it had to come down,” he said.
Piece by piece the worn out and worn down pillar of Pioneer Park and reminder of days gone by was stripped of its branches, which were then chopped into individual stumps, leaving a shorn remnant and ghostly looking version of its once dignified self, in what might be considered, the barest and most vulnerable state of its long and dignified life.
