More than 250 people at the The Festival of Trees raised more than $1,190 for Mission Community Service Society’s Christmas Bureau last week.
There were also six boxes of non-perishable foods and gifts collected, said Joy Cox, who coordinated the event for the first time with Margaret Peake, along with a team of 27 volunteers.
“It was a lot of work, but very worthwhile,” Peake noted.
Nineteen trees, decorated by local organizations and individuals, were on display at All Saints Anglican Church on James Street from Dec. 10-14. With a donation to the Christmas Bureau, everyone viewing the trees could vote for their favourite three while enjoying festive treats, music and entertainment.
The scores were close, said Cox, who is already talking about next year’s event.
At the end of the event, all the trees were donated to local families through the Christmas Bureau.
The top trees in each category are:
Best Decorate Tree in Show: The Valley Singers
Best Uniquely Decorated Tree: JMJ Photography Services
Best Decorated Tree Family or Business: Aleaxander and Nan
Best Traditional Christmas Tree: Isobel’s Family Christmas Tree.
