The trial is scheduled to begin today for Jeffrey Friesen, accused of killing his estranged wife, Leanne Friesen of Abbotsford, in February 2013.

Proceedings are expected to get underway at 10 a.m. in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.

Leanne, 40, was found dead in the garage of her home in the 34800 block of Cassiar Court in Abbotsford on Feb. 6, 2013 after police received a call from a family member asking them to check on the well-being of a female resident.

Investigators confirmed that Leanne had died of gunshot wounds. She left behind a son, who was 11 at the time, and a girl, who was 12.

Jeffrey, 44, was charged with second-degree murder and was released on bail in June of that year.
