Trio arrested in suspected Vernon drug lab released from custody

No charges laid, as of yet, in connection with a drug lab found in a backyard shed at a duplex in the 1700 block of 41st Avenue Friday

Three people arrested Friday after a suspected drug lab was being investigated in Vernon were released without charges on the weekend.

The trio from Vernon – two men, aged 44 and 41, and a 29-year-old woman – were arrested in a duplex in the 1700 block of 41st Avenue Friday when members of the Vernon RCMP task force and clan lab team showed up mid-afternoon for a report of a possible drug lab.

“Items located inside were consistent with a (suspected meth) drug lab,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “There’s evidence of a drug lab is all the officers have. It takes stages to produce the drug in these labs and there is definitely evidence that that is what’s going on.”

Molendyk said of the three people arrested and released, one, he believed, was known to police.

The small lab was set up in a backyard shed so the residence was not posted under the City of Vernon’s drug remediation bylaw.

Molendyk said police are not releasing how they came to find out about the lab as their investigation continues.
