Truck drivers to benefit from free Wi-Fi at commercial vehicle inspection stations

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced Feb. 16, that Free Wi-Fi has been installed at all commercial vehicle inspection stations throughout the province to help improve safety and efficiency on B.C.’s roads by making it easier for commercial drivers to access the online services they need.

The Wi-Fi-enabled inspection stations give commercial drivers the opportunity to check DriveBC for highway delays or closures affecting their route, obtain transport permits for future trips, and stay connected to friends, family and colleagues back home.

The following 24 inspection stations now have free Wi-Fi:

Northern Region:

* Fort Nelson – 2809 Alaska Highway North, Fort Nelson

* Fort St. John – 9011 Alaska Highway North, Fort St. John

* Pouce Coupe – 13350 Highway 2, Dawson Creek

* Prince George North – 1581 John Hart Highway, Prince George

* Red Rock – 360-1011 4th Ave., Prince George

* Terrace – 2916 Highway 16 East, Terrace

* Tete Jaune Cache – Junction of Highway 5 and Highway 16, Valemount

* Vanderhoof – Junction of Highway 16 and Highway 27, Vanderhoof

South Coast Region:

* Duncan North – 7201 Trans-Canada Highway, Duncan

* Haig – 63620 Highway 7, Hope

* Hunter Creek – 58705 Trans-Canada Highway, Hope

* Laidlaw – 58710 Trans-Canada Highway, Hope

* Nordel – 8150 Nordel Way, Delta

* Parksville – 1326 Island Highway East, Nanoose Bay

* Pacific – 316-176th St., Surrey

Southern Interior Region:

* Castlegar – 310 Highway 3, Castlegar

* Golden – 2570 N. Trans-Canada Highway, Golden

* Kamloops Eastbound – 2575 W. Trans-Canada Highway, Kamloops

* Kamloops Westbound – 2650 W. Trans-Canada Highway, Kamloops

* Kaleden – 100 Main Street, Penticton

* Quesnel – 3870 Highway 97 North, Quesnel

* Sparwood – 17 km east of Sparwood on Highway 3, Sparwood

* Vernon – 6775 Highway 97, Vernon

* Yahk – Junction of Highway 3 and Highway 95, Yahk

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) branch promotes compliance of safety regulations within the commercial transport sector, with the goal of increasing road safety and protecting public health, the environment and transportation infrastructure.

On average, CVSE officers conduct more than 25,000 vehicle inspections each year, issuing violation tickets and removing unsafe vehicles from provincial roadways on a daily basis.
