The Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel in Port Alberni had to evacuate 55 rooms early this morning following the tsunami warning.
A front desk auditor noticed the weather alert before the sirens were triggered and called the hotel’s owner Peter Mugleston.
Mugleston headed right to the hotel, getting there as the sirens began.
“He personally went room to room to evacuate guests,” said Annette Clement, sales and marketing manager at the Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel.
Clement said everything ran smoothly and guest’s evacuated to the Alberni Valley Multiplex until the warning was cancelled.
Tuesday’s sirens were triggered following at 7.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Kodiak, Alaska, approximately 279 kilometres offshore, at around 1:30 a.m.
