Global BC reporter Ron Bencze, who was charged with five sex-related offences earlier this year, is now facing four more charges involving children.
Surrey RCMP announced the new charges Tuesday, which include two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference involving persons under the age of 16.
Bencze, a Surrey resident, was charged in January with sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference with a person under 16 and two of invitation to sexual touching involving a person under 16, which were alleged to involve one victim between 2001 and 2011.
The latest charges involve two new victims, claim police, noting that since Bencze’s arrest, several additional complaints came to the attention of the Surrey RCMP Child Abuse and Sexual Offender Unit.
Bencze, 44, is not in custody, but must not have any contact with his alleged victims or any other children.
Bencze was a reporter at Global BC since 2004, but was suspended after the initial charges were laid. His coaching position with Surrey United Soccer club was also terminated.
His next court date is scheduled for Thursday (April 14) in Surrey.
