Two buildings on Cranbrook Street North were totally destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon, September 1.
Firefighters, BC Ambulance Service, and RCMP responded to the building fire which broke out about 2 p.m. in the vacant building which formerly housed the local Royal Canadian Legion branch.
Firefighters were using firetrucks, and water hoses for fire suppression efforts, but the fire spread rapidly, and quickly burned as the roof and walls collapsed due to the intensity of the flames.

High winds pushed smoke and flames to a nearby restaurant, May Mays’, which caught fire from the roof, and eventually engulfed the entire building.
By 3:30 p.m., both buildings were destroyed

Traffic was blocked on Cranbrook Street and on Kootenay Street on the backside of the properties as firefighters responded to the blaze.
