Someone is dumping dead horses along the dike in Pitt Meadows. People on social media are reporting that the first one was found two days ago on the Alouette River dike, at the north end of 216th Street.
Another one was found Friday on the dike near Harris Road.
Lisa Parker, a member of the Haney Horsemen Association, said the horse community in Maple Ridge is ready to help identify the animals and possibly find the owners.
“There’s a big horse community in Maple Ridge and nobody is saying they’re missing any horses,” Parker said.
She said the first horse was found in the ditch upside down with its legs sticking out. That’s since been removed by the City of Pitt Meadows.
Parker noted that it would have been difficult to drag a dead horse and dump it in either location which leaves the other possibility that the horses were killed on site. “You can’t move a horse unless you have a tractor.
“It smacks of somebody deliberately doing this. So it’s quite bizarre,” Parker said.
