Two fugitives from West Kelowna were arrested over the weekend for charges ranging from sexual assault to break and enter, thanks to tips from the public and tenacious teamwork by police.
On Saturday, the West Kelowna RCMP received a report that Devin Myra, wanted on three outstanding warrants stemming from two separate incidents, one involving sexual interference of a person under 16 years old, was at the Tim Hortons on Carrington Road.
When officers arrived, Myra took off running, forcing a brief foot pursuit. He was captured and will appear in court this afternoon facing a string of charges including break and enter with intent, sexual assault, sexual interference of a person under the age of 16 and breach of recognizance.
Also Saturday, another tip about West Kelowna resident Evan Swite lead to his arrest at a residence on Nancee Way. Swite was reported to be at the Liquor Depot on Highway 97 around 4:30 p.m., but when police arrived he had already fled.
A containment area was set up and a systematic search conducted until he was found hiding in the bushes of a residence on Nancee Way and arrested.
He is scheduled for court Sept. 30; neither man faces new charges.
