LP Building Solutions has awarded two scholarships to two students, Kayla Taphorn and Ryla Schacher, in the Golden community to continue their post-secondary studies for the 2021-22 academic school year.

The LP Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards the accomplishments of its employees’ children who excel in their studies and make positive contributions in their communities. This year, more than 50 scholarships were awarded across the U.S and Canada.

“I’m pretty excited to receive this scholarship, it helps me financially to complete my studies debt-freem said Taphorn, who is in her third year of post-secondary education and is working towards becoming a dental hygenist.

“I think it’s so important to go into post-post secondary life without any financial struggles.”

Taphorn says the money will go towards her tuition, books and instruments needed for her classes.

“I’m really happy that I got it and honoured,” said Schacher, who graduated high school this past spring and is attending Okanagan College to work towards a general science degree, which she wants to take to UBCIT to become an ultra-sound technician.

“I just wanted to say how accomplished I feel that I got such big scholarship especially since I work at LP and my mom does. It also helps me out financially a lot since my dad passed away 7 years ago so it’s only my mom. Thank you for everything.”

Recipients are awarded up to $6,000 for four years of full-time undergraduate study or until the student has completed their program, whichever comes first.

Both girls say that they think the scholarship is a great opportunity for students in the Golden community.

“I think this is a gerat opportunity for our students here, I know LP employs a lot of summer employees as I’m only one of many, and it’s great that they help so much,” said Taphorn.

“I think it’s really improtant for us to have these opportunties, it allows us to want to go to school and not worry about the financial stress.”

“This scholarship means a lot to those who earn it, it’ll help me out especially because it’s going to help me keep my head in it, because I know I have to work hard to keep it and look forward and make my mom proud,”added Schacher.

The LP Scholarship Program is administered by Scholarship America, and submissions are evaluated based on each student’s academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.

Financial need as calculated by Scholarship Americamust be demonstrated for the student to be awarded a scholarship.
