Two Kelowna women killed in collision

Wet road conditions may have contributed to fatal Highway 97 accident in Vernon early Sunday morning.

The BC Coroners Service has identified two Kelowna residents killed in a motor vehicle collision in Vernon early Sunday morning as Chantel Diane Bazin, 32, and Kayla Elizabeth Cartwright, 26.

Vernon RCMP say Bazin was the driver and Cartwright a front seat passenger of a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 97 when their vehicle slid across the centre line, colliding with a northbound vehicle with two occupants from Armstrong, one female, aged 32, and one male, 26.

The two Kelowna women died at the accident scene while the Armstrong residents were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained in the crash.

Police says the roads were wet at the time, and road conditions are being investigated as a possible factor in the incident as the investigation involving the police and BC Coroners Office continues.  Highway 97 was closed for approximately six hours to all traffic until the accident scene investigation was completed.
