Two Nelson RCMP officers under investigation for man’s injury during arrest

The officers were responding to a call about an intoxicated man

Two Nelson RCMP officers are facing an investigating after a man was injured while being taken into custody Wednesday evening.

According to an RCMP release Thursday, Nelson RCMP responded to a 911 call at a residence on the 1400 block of Ash Street where an intoxicated man was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave.

The man was outside when an officer arrive, and a struggle ensued when he resisted being taken into custody.

A second officer assisted, after which the man was arrested and transported to hospital for assessment of injuries.

Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia, a provincial civilian agency that investigates incidents in which a person is killed or injured by a police officer, is now looking at whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries.
