Two pedestrians struck near school

School staff are assisting students who witnessed the collision.

Two pedestrians were struck and rushed to hospital this morning after being hit near Edward Milne Community School.

The incident happened at 11:14 a.m. on Edward Milne Road, where a white sedan driven by a “new” driver lost control, colliding with students walking along the road, said Sooke RCMP Cpl. Joe Holmes.

Two students were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but, speed and inexperience appear to be contributing factors, Holmes said. There is no indication that alcohol was involved.

Charges under the Motor Vehicle Act are likely.

The name of the driver was not released.

School staff are assisting students who witnessed the collision.
