Two people were arrested and charged with drug trafficking in the business area of Second Street in Trail.
RCMP Sgt. Darren Oelke reports the male, 47, and 36-year-old female are known to police.
The drugs are possibly methamphetamine and heroine or fentanyl, but Oelke says an analysis of the substances is necessary to know for certain.
The charges follow ongoing investigations by Trail and Castlegar RCMP Crime Reduction Units, which have been working collaboratively on trafficking of drugs in both cities.
The arrests were made Dec. 15 in East Trail, though Oelke confirmed that is not where the suspects reside.
“A significant quantity of several different types of drugs were seized during the arrest,” he said.
Both accused were released from custody to appear in Rossland Provincial Court on March 8.
Suspect names will not be released until official charges are sworn in by the Crown at their first appearance.
Police will be forwarding charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking against the two Trail residents.
He added, “Please report any suspicious activity that you feel is associated to drug trafficking to your local police.”
