Surrey's Enver Creek Secondary and Janice Churchill Elementary were locked down for an hour Thursday at RCMP's request.

SURREY — Enver Creek Secondary was locked down for about an hour on Thursday.

“At about noon the school got a call from Surrey RCMP advising they go into lockdown,” said Surrey School District spokesman Doug Strachan.

The neighbourhood Janice Churchill Elementary was also locked down, meaning all external doors were locked, he added.

Strachan couldn’t speak to the threat that caused the lockdown, but did say, “There was nothing happening on the school grounds that was a direct threat to the safety of the students or staff.”

Strachan said classes were back in session after the lockdown was lifted about an hour later.

Surrey RCMP tweeted that the detachment was responding to a reported threat at Enver Creek but that it was “determined unfounded.”
