Two teens injured in late night crash

A 19-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Kelowna, were taken to hospital for minor injuries.

The occupants of two vehicles are both lucky to have escaped serious injury after a collision at an intersection resulted in extensive damages on Sunday night.

A member of the Kelowna RCMP came upon a two-vehicle crash that had just occurred on Harvey Avenue at Spall Road Nov. 30 at 8:09 p.m,.

“According to witnesses, a black Chevy Impala was westbound on Harvey Avenue, travelling in excess of the speed limit, and accelerated when the light turned yellow,” said Const. Kris Clark.

“As the Impala entered the intersection, it impacted a black Ford Focus that was attempting to turn left onto Spall Road. The force of the collision spun the Impala around the light standard and the Kelowna Fire Department was required to extract the driver due to extensive damage to the vehicle.”

A 19-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, both from Kelowna, were taken to hospital for minor injuries. Both drivers were very fortunate to have escaped serious injury in the crash.

All drivers are reminded that a yellow light actually means stop, unless the stop cannot be made safely. Also, when executing a left turn, one must yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. Never assume that traffic will stop just because the light changes to yellow or red.
