UBC bus route scaled back

Transit service between Vernon and Kelowna trimmed for the summer

Transit service between Vernon and Kelowna is being trimmed for the summer.

The Regional District of North Okanagan board has decided to reduce the number of transit trips to the University of B.C. from 10 to four a day from April 29 to Aug. 30.

“We agreed some time ago that to increase the service (in the winter), we need to make this adjustment financially in the summer,” said chairperson Patrick Nicol.

By having fewer trips when UBC classes are not in session, RDNO has enough money to provide additional runs when the campus is operating.

Over the years, there have been complaints that the bus route is over-capacity and students are left standing on the side of the road and unable to get to classes.

The scheduled departure times from Vernon Monday to Friday, from April 29 to Aug. 30, will be  7 a.m., 8 a.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
