THE REM Lee Theatre in Terrace will be a busy place this afternoon as the University of Northern B.C. holds a convocation for its graduates.
And it’s a special occasion for the university because this year is its 25th anniversary.
To note the anniversary, the university is having a tree planting ceremony beginning at 4 pm at its Terrace campus on Keith Ave. following the convocation.
In attendance for the planting of the western red cedar will be representatives from the original 16,000 petitioners who advocated for the formation of a university for northern B.C.
Now firmly established with a main campus in Prince George, the university has regional campuses throughout the region.
“We have had RSVPs from some 400-plus people to attend the reception after all the ceremonies,” reports Phil Burton, the university’s northwest regional chair who is based in Terrace.
