Nearly 150 people have already been vaccinated in Agassiz’s COVID-19 clinic, but future dates for vaccinations are up in the air.
According to Coun. Susan Spaeti, sharing information from public health during the Kent council meeting Monday (March 22), the first vaccination clinic in Agassiz saw 40 people vaccinated. There were 100 more people vaccinated on Friday, March 19.
Spaeti said the Agassiz clinic, which is located in the public health building on Pioneer Avenue, will be open two more days this week, and will vaccinate 100 residents on each of those days.
Spaeti then said there would be an Indigenous-only clinic.

Agassiz-Harrison Community Services is currently looking for volunteers on behalf of Fraser Health to help out at the Agassiz vaccination clinic with paperwork, wiping down chairs and line control. Anyone wanting more information can contact Community Services at 604-796-2585 or email volunteers@agassizcs.ca.
Although the clinic is moving forward with vaccinations, Spaeti noted that it is not open every day.
“Hope, with the same population as Agassiz-Harrison, have a five day a week clinic,” Spaeti said. “There is not a regular posting for any information on when or if a new clinic will open up.”
She added that residents have been frustrated when they are unable to book their vaccination in Agassiz, only to find that clinic dates have been randomly added later.
Spaeti said that Fraser Health CEO Victoria Lee had promised more vaccination dates would open up in Agassiz when new age groups were able to be vaccinated, but did not say when or how many.
Kent Mayor Sylvia Pranger said the district is hoping to get more information on future clinics in the next few days.
Because of the limited number of spaces available for vaccinations in Agassiz, Community Services is also offering rides to people who need to travel to other areas to get their COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone in need of a ride to and from their appointment can contact 604-796-2585.

Spaeti also noted in her report to council that Fraser Health is seeing a disproportionately high number of COVID-19 cases relative to its population. Agassiz-Harrison had the second highest rate of new COVID-19 cases, as reported in the Observer last week, and Spaeti said there had been variants of concern found in the community.
