A number of Lumby motorists have been caught cruising the streets illegally.
Within the past week or so, six vehicles were written tickets for not having insurance.
“We seem to be writing a lot of ‘No insurance’ tickets as of late,” said Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce. “These are one of the most expensive fines in the Motor Vehicle Act ($598) in addition to the cost of getting your vehicle towed off the roadway because it isn’t insured.”
Therefore all drivers are reminded to check their registration documents or make note of the expiry date on the validation tag stuck to their rear license plate.
“Often drivers are unaware their insurance has expired. We often hear the excuse that, ‘we didn’t get a letter from ICBC…,” said Proce. “Although this is a courtesy that ICBC usually extends, you can’t rely on it as notification to renew your insurance. The onus is on each registered owner to insure his or her vehicle is properly registered and insured or face the consequences.”
Drivers are also at risk of substantial costs if they are involved in a motor vehicle accident while uninsured.
A sad farewell
The Lumby RCMP detachment is bidding a sad farewell to a devoted auxiliary constable.
Sid Beck joined the auxiliary policing program approximately two years ago.
He died in the Vernon Hospice House last weekend.
“He was genuinely devoted to volunteering in our community and in Vernon in this capacity,” said Cpl. Henry Proce.
“I for one will remember his enthusiasm around the detachment and our great conversations about motorcycling. He will be missed, our condolences go out to his wife and children.”
