United Way 2014 campaign raises $1.3 million

Fundraising efforts fall short of$1.5 million goal.

The 2014 fundraising campaign total for the United Way of the Central and South Okanagan Similkameen has come in at $1.3 million, falling short of the $1.5 million goal.

Earlier in the month, United Way had announced an extension to the Jan. 31 deadline extending it to Feb. 12 due to the shortfall, an initiative that helped raise an additional $10,000.

Thanks so much to the last minute donors and to everyone who contributed this year. We’re very pleased with the results of the campaign, ” said Shelley Gilmore, United Way executive director.

“We’ve exceeded last year’s results and this will go a long way to supporting the growing needs of the community. The funds that are raised here are put to work in our region.”

Now the United Way community investment committee, made up of community stakeholders and volunteers, will start the in-depth process of assessing funding applications from community agencies.
