UPDATE
Samples taken from the Port Edward water system during the weekend have come back clear, and the boil water advisory for the community was lifted early this morning.
ORIGINAL
The District of Port Edward is under a water boil order which may last until Monday. The District is asking residents to make sure they boil the water from their taps for at least 5 minutes before using it.
The reason for the order is that a dormant water pipe leading into the Port Edward harbour was opened without the District’s knowing and the sediment that had built up inside the unused over the years may have been introduced into the rest of the water system.
The District is currently flushing out the community’s water system which will should be completed overnight.
But the boil water can’t be lifted until the water is tested, analyzed twice, and comes back clean each time. With crews coming to do the testing tomorrow, it may be as late as Monday before the District gets the all-clear.
