PREVIOUSLY POSTED: As power outages extend more than 48 hours for many residents, the City of Nanaimo is offering to help folks keep warm.
The municipality announced this afternoon that residents can stay warm today, Dec. 22, at the Beban Park Social Centre, until 9:30 p.m.
“The city recognizes that many homes without power may be getting cold and are opening up the centre to provide an opportunity for residents to get together in a warm setting,” noted a city press release.
According to the city, the Nanaimo Community Assistance program provides residents with short-term support during emergencies.
“Our volunteers are ready to welcome residents without power to Beban Park social lounge to warm up and charge their phones,” said Karen Lindsay, the city’s emergency program manager, in the release.
